Kyle Wayne Lederer was a guy who never met a stranger. He welcomed everyone with open arms and had a passion for life. No matter how bad life was at the moment for him, he was always able to look on the bright side and stay optimistic. He loved to joke around and pull pranks. He always knew how to make people laugh and how to cheer people up. He was known by many people, loved by most, and will be missed by all.
On Sunday, July 17th 2005, Kyle went out with three friends to Lake Oroville on a Pontoon Boat. Everyone was jumping off the boat and messing around. Tony, who was to drive, told everyone to get in the boat and not to jump off because he was starting the motor.
Going 10 mph, and being 20 minutes from the loading dock, Kyle went to the back of the boat, got a running start, and jumped off the front. He ended up underneath the boat and swam underwater to avoid the approaching propeller. His leg was caught by the propeller and he was sucked into the motor. Kyle came up on the other side of the boat, swam to the boat, and asked Tony to pull him out. Kyle's leg was cut, and his limb was dangling.
He went unconcious shortly after and was rushed to the hospital. His leg was amputated. He was bleeding so badly, that his body swelled up and he started bleeding from his eyes and nose. Finally, he was stabilized.
As for Tony, he was arrested on the spot and was put in jail. Tony did not get to stand in the waiting room with Kyle's friends and family in his last days. Tony was to be charged with involuntary manslaughter, but charges were dropped.
Kyle remained unconsious throughout his stay at Enloe Medical Hospital. The doctor said he would be braindamaged from so much blood loss and possibly braindead. But Kyle was strong. He started wiggling his toes and responding to voices.
Kyle was taken from this world on Tuesday, July 19th, 2005. His funeral was held on the Friday of the 22nd. The main hall was full, as well as an overflow room, the lobby and the parking lot. He was 21 years of age (June 7th).
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, brother Clint, and Kyle's closest friends. Especially to Tony, who only tried to help a friend and was wrongly accused.
The town was shocked. The whole world cried. We'll miss you, Kyle. RIP.
